MDCN inducts 250 foreign-trained doctors, dentists

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria on Tuesday inducted 250 foreign-trained medical and dental graduates who passed its June 2026 Assessment Examination, authorising them to practise in Nigeria.

The graduates were inducted during the council’s Pledge-Taking and Sponsorship Ceremony held in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the inductees comprised 238 medical doctors and 12 dental surgeons.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Registrar of MDCN, Prof. Fatima Kyari, congratulated the newly inducted professionals and urged them to uphold the ethics, discipline and professionalism expected of medical and dental practitioners.

Kyari said the successful candidates had fulfilled the council’s requirements for registration after completing the prescribed assessment process for foreign-trained graduates seeking to practise in Nigeria.

According to her, the induction marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to quality healthcare, integrity and compassionate service to patients.

“The oath you are taking today must serve as a guiding principle, reminding you that your duty transcends personal convenience,” she said.

The registrar also urged the graduates to continually update their knowledge and skills in line with global best practices while placing patients’ welfare at the centre of their professional responsibilities.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, represented by Dr Gloria Uzoigwe, Director and Head of Dentistry at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, congratulated the inductees.

He urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and compassion in discharging their duties.

Pate said the Federal Government remained committed to strengthening Nigeria’s health workforce and improving healthcare delivery through the deployment of competent medical and dental professionals.

Also speaking, Chairman of the THISDAY Editorial Board, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, who was the guest speaker, said social media and Artificial Intelligence (AI) had transformed access to information and communication.

He, however, cautioned that the technologies also posed risks through the spread of misinformation and disinformation.

“I urge you to rely on credible scientific evidence, uphold professional ethics and use digital technologies responsibly in your medical practices,” he said.

One of the inductees, Dr Ummukhulsum Habib, described the induction as the fulfilment of many years of hard work and determination.

n

“This is a dream come true. With this, I pledge to contribute meaningfully to healthcare delivery in Nigeria,” she said.

Another inductee, Dr Chelsea Chizitere, said the assessment process had prepared the graduates for professional practice and expressed appreciation to the council for maintaining high standards.

n

“Although it was very tough for me, but thank God we made it. I sincerely appreciate the MDCN’s effort in doing this for us,” Chizitere said.
