MBF flags imminent militia attacks in Taraba, Kaduna

The Middle Belt Forum has raised concern over alleged plans by suspected Fulani ethnic militia to launch attacks in parts of Taraba State and Southern Kaduna in Kaduna State.

In a statement obtained by The PUNCH on Monday, its spokesman, Luka Binniyat, said intelligence reports pointed to possible attacks along the Chachangi–Yelwa axis and the Wukari–Takum road corridor in Taraba, with Monday, March 23, 2026, identified as a likely window.

“The attention of the Middle Belt Forum has been drawn to a trending security alert on social media of impending attacks in parts of Taraba State and Southern Kaduna.

“These areas are integral to the Middle Belt, and we express deep concern,” the statement read.

It also listed Kajuru, Chikun and Kachia local government areas of Kaduna State as vulnerable due to recurring attacks and kidnappings.

“While we do not intend to escalate this warning into undue panic, events in the past 24 hours make it necessary to urge all residents to remain alert, vigilant and united in the face of credible threats,” the forum added.

The forum warned that the identified locations might not be the only targets.

“These identified locations may not be the only targets, as such threats could also serve as diversionary tactics,” it stated.

The forum advised residents to remain watchful and take precautionary measures.

“Residents should watch out for unusual movements or gatherings of unfamiliar persons, sightings of armed herders, increased motorcycle movements and the establishment of suspicious camps in nearby bushes or forests,” it said.

It further urged residents to avoid isolated farming, travel in groups and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The forum also called on security agencies to act swiftly.

“We call on security agencies to take these threats seriously and ensure sustained surveillance and proactive deployment across the identified and surrounding areas,” the statement added.
