Leverkusen open to €35m Onyeka sale

Bayer Leverkusen are willing to consider offers between €30m and €35m for Nigerian-eligible midfielder Francis Onyeka amid growing interest from clubs across Germany and the Premier League, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

According to German outlet fussballdaten.de, Leverkusen are taking a cautious and strategic approach regarding the future of the 19-year-old playmaker, who impressed during a loan spell at VfL Bochum this season.

The report stated that Leverkusen still view Onyeka as part of their long-term plans after extending his contract until 2028 before his move to Bochum, but the club could still sanction a transfer if a substantial bid arrives.

“Leverkusen are taking a careful and strategic approach regarding Onyeka ’s future,” fussballdaten.de reported.

“They would begin negotiations at around €30m to €35m. While the club would prefer to sell abroad rather than strengthen a domestic rival, serious Bundesliga offers are expected to be considered.”

Born in Germany to a Nigerian father, Onyeka remains eligible to represent Super Eagles at the senior international level despite featuring for Germany at the youth level.

He previously represented Germany during the qualification campaign for the 2024 UEFA European U-17 Championship.

Onyeka enjoyed a breakthrough 2025/26 campaign at Bochum after being sent out on loan to gain first-team experience.

Among the clubs strongly linked with the teenager are RB Leipzig and Schalke 04.

Leipzig reportedly see Onyeka as a long-term development project similar to Xavi Simons and are believed to be preparing an offer worth around €25m plus bonuses.

The opportunity to feature in the UEFA Champions League is said to be one of the major attractions for the player’s representatives.

Schalke, who recently returned to the Bundesliga, are also understood to be keen on signing Onyeka and have reportedly proposed several transfer structures to Leverkusen, including a loan deal with an option to buy and a permanent transfer containing a buy-back clause.

The report added that Schalke are hoping the atmosphere at the Veltins-Arena and the promise of regular first-team football could persuade the youngster.

Several mid-table Premier League clubs are also believed to be monitoring the situation ahead of possible approaches in June.
