Law Enforcement Targets Sect Members: Authorities Detain Trio, Confiscate Guns in Lagos

An intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Lagos State Police Command in Imota has resulted in the arrest of three suspected cultists, with the recovery of various firearms, ammunition, and other hazardous weapons from their possession.

The Lagos State Police Command disclosed this information on its official X account on Tuesday, revealing that the operation was prompted by reliable tips from the public regarding the activities of suspected cultists in Imota.

The police operation was initiated after receiving credible information from members of the public, which led operatives to storm the location and apprehend Jelili Adeyemo, a 37-year-old alleged to be the group's armourer, as well as Bisoye Adewale, 42, and John Okeafo, 60.

A arsenal of weapons was recovered from the suspects, including one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, and four cutlasses, among other exhibits.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects are affiliated with the Aiye Confraternity, and the recovered Beretta pistol is allegedly owned by a notorious cultist known as 'Mayibone', who is currently evading capture.

The suspects have been arraigned and remanded, with efforts currently underway to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons, according to the police statement.

Lagos State Police Command's Commissioner, Tijani Fatai, has reaffirmed the command's dedication to combating cultism and other violent crimes throughout the state.

Commissioner Fatai urged residents to continue providing the police with useful information, stating that residents should maintain their support for the police by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
