Law enforcement seizes illicit firearms, apprehends alleged burglary suspects, livestock rustlers in Kano

The Kano State Police Command said it had recorded significant breakthroughs in the fight against crime across the state in the last two days.

The achievements included the interception of illegal arms and ammunition, the arrest of five suspected armed robbers, the recovery of a stolen cow and ram, and the arrest of two suspected thieves.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim Bakori.

“The Kano State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in the fight against crime across the state in the last two days,” the statement said.

According to the statement, on August 13, 2026, at about 2:30pm, information from a patriotic member of the public led to the recovery of one Tokarev pistol loaded with 48 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition from a suspicious parcel of luggage.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having bought the firearm and ammunition from another state, and was forwarding the same to someone in another state.

n

“Investigation is ongoing to trail and apprehend other accomplices in the illegal arms supply chain,” the statement said.

Similarly, on the same day at about 2:30pm, based on credible intelligence, operatives of the Rogo Police Division arrested five suspected armed robbers, including Basiru Ibrahim, 25; Saidu Madaki, 23; Sa’adu Ibrahim, 25; Lawan Yusuf, 24; and Muktar Salisu, 21, all of the same address.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects have been involved in four different cases of criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy and armed robbery within Jajaye Village and environs, which resulted in various degrees of grievous injuries to victims.

“They also confessed to having stolen about five motorcycles and other valuable properties. Investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion,” the statement said.

Also, on the same day, operatives of the Gaya Division recovered a cow and a ram after intercepting Karimu Mamman and Madama, both males of Jube Village, who were allegedly in possession of the animals.

Discreet investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspected members of the syndicate, who were subsequently charged to court for prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police commended the people of Kano State for their vigilance and timely information that led to the successes.

He also appreciated the officers and men of the Dorayi Babba, Rogo and Gaya divisions for their steadfastness, professionalism and commitment to duty.

“These achievements are in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on robust community policing engagements, sustained intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention strategies,” the statement added.
