Law enforcement officials arrest colleagues in connection with attack on non-military person in Ebonyi

An investigation has been launched by the Ebonyi State Police Command into the alleged assault of a civilian by officers from the Ohaukwu Police Division in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, which took place on Monday.

The incident gained widespread attention after images of the victim surfaced on social media, prompting a public outcry for action to be taken against those responsible.

A post shared by @martins_nwede on Monday included an image of the alleged victim and stated that Officer Kingsley Esheya, attached to Ohaukwu Division, Ebonyi State Command, was responsible for the assault, calling for the officer to face punishment.

The post further claimed that the accused was attempting to cover up the incident with lies, despite the Commissioner of Police being aware of the situation.

In response to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, issued a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the officers involved had been identified, detained, and transferred to the state command headquarters.

This action was taken on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, who also ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

According to Ukandu, the officers will face disciplinary action based on the outcome of the investigation, ensuring that justice is served in the case.

A statement from the command confirmed that the officers involved in the altercation had been detained and an investigation was underway, with CP Hope Okafor ordering a thorough probe into the incident.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, and the command has wished them a speedy recovery.

The Ebonyi State Police Command has expressed sympathy to the victim and assured the public that the investigation will be transparent and impartial, following due process.
