Investigations are underway in Ogun State following a midnight attack on the hostels of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) students at the Ibogun Campus, carried out by suspected armed robbers, according to Police.

The attack resulted in multiple injuries to students and the theft of their belongings, as confirmed by the command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Division and the Area Commander have been deployed to the scene to assess the situation and ensure the safety of students and residents, as stated by Oluseyi Babaseyi.

The attack, which started around midnight and lasted into the early hours of Saturday, involved over a dozen gunmen who stormed multiple student hostels, firing shots and causing occupants to flee in fear.

The attackers operated for several minutes without immediate resistance, taking away mobile phones, laptops, and other valuables, according to eyewitness accounts.

A social media user, Jinadu Michael Mabayomije, shared his experience of the attack online, describing it as terrifying and stating that the assailants came in large numbers, shooting and breaking into rooms.

He recounted that students were running in all directions, with many unsure of where to hide, as the attackers shot and broke into rooms, as described by Jinadu Michael Mabayomije.

Disturbing scenes of what appeared to be bloodstains were seen on walls and floors in one of the affected hostels, indicating that some victims sustained injuries during the attack.

Residents of the Ibogun community described the attack as chaotic and traumatic, with persistent gunshots echoing across the campus environment as students scrambled for safety.

Some victims were injured while attempting to escape or resist the attackers, according to reports from the scene of the attack.
