Law enforcement in Kano recovers pair of pilfered vehicles, three-wheeled bike, apprehends alleged thieves

The Kano State Police Command has made significant strides in combating car theft, recovering two stolen vehicles and a tricycle through targeted operations across the state, with three suspects also taken into custody in connection with one of the cases.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, these recoveries were facilitated by intelligence-led operations and collaborative efforts with the community, as outlined in a statement released on Tuesday.

The recovered items have since been returned to their rightful owners, who have praised the police for their professionalism and prompt response, as disclosed in the statement.

In one notable instance, police operatives from the Tarauni Area Command successfully recovered a stolen Pontiac Vibe vehicle, valued at approximately N12m, in Darmanawa Quarters on May 3, after it was reported stolen from the owner's residence earlier that day.

The vehicle, bearing registration number KMC-175CU, was tracked down using its particulars, and the owner was subsequently located and reunited with the vehicle, which was taken into safe custody, with an investigation currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

In a related development, the command also recovered a 2004 Toyota Corolla LE, which was stolen in Abuja on April 22 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wuse Zone 2, and later tracked to Darmanawa Layout in Kano.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Special Intervention Squad swiftly recovered the vehicle and are currently working to apprehend the identified suspects, according to the statement.

In another operation, the police recovered a stolen CNG-powered tricycle and apprehended three suspects, Umar Rabi'u, Yahaya Hannafi, and Amina Muhammad, after the tricycle rider was poisoned along Mararraban Jos in Kaduna State on May 1.

The tricycle was later intercepted by police operatives along Ring Road in Kano on May 3, and the suspects are currently assisting with the investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices involved in the crime.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and swift response, and also expressed appreciation to the public for providing timely information that aided the recoveries.

Bakori reiterated the command's commitment to tackling crime and issued a warning to criminal elements to desist from their activities or face the full force of the law, stating that the command will continue to dominate the public space and deny criminals the freedom to act.

During a ceremony held at the police headquarters in Bompai, the beneficiaries of the recovered property expressed their gratitude to the police for the prompt recovery of their belongings without any delay or extortion.

The police have advised residents to take preventive measures, including installing tracking devices in their vehicles, avoiding isolated parking areas, and reporting suspicious activities to security agencies in a timely manner.
