Law enforcement frees four abduction survivors in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of four kidnapped victims, thanks to a coordinated operation involving its personnel and other security stakeholders.

This development was made public by the command's spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, in a statement released on Friday.

According to Ikoedem, the victims were taken by men dressed in vigilante uniforms on July 30 at approximately 10:40 pm.

The kidnappers, numbering around three, had set up a blockade on the Ugbokun axis near the military checkpoint along the Lagos/Benin Expressway, using logs of wood and leaves to attack motorists and abduct some occupants.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of the Okada Division swiftly assembled a team comprising police operatives, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, local hunters, and other security partners to respond to the scene.

The operatives then launched an aggressive search operation, utilizing drone technology to aid in the rescue mission and track down the kidnappers.

The sustained pressure exerted by the security team forced the kidnappers to flee, leaving behind their captives, identified as Muritala Babatunde, Bello Aminat, Otor Prince, and Yeiyah Gift, who were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.

The police command has commended the bravery and professionalism displayed by all personnel involved in the operation, while also reassuring residents of its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes throughout the state.

Operations are currently underway to apprehend the suspects who escaped, with the command urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support the police in their efforts.
