Law enforcement fatally shoots two abductors, seizes gun following rescue of Ogun royal family member

Operatives from the Ogun State Police Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit have successfully neutralized two suspected kidnappers connected to the abduction of Prince Idris of Okun Owa, and in the process, recovered a range of items including an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, and a suspected ransom bag. The operation was a significant breakthrough in the command's fight against kidnapping, following the safe release of the prince.

The prince was abducted on June 30, 2026, at approximately 7:30pm, when kidnappers invaded his Okun Owa residence and took him away, prompting a swift response from the police. The Commissioner of Police immediately directed the activation of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim's release and apprehend those responsible.

Following the prince's abduction, the police launched sustained operations, applying coordinated tactical pressure on the kidnappers, which ultimately led to the prince's unharmed release on July 3, 2026. The police then intensified their efforts to track down the kidnappers, acting on credible intelligence to locate them.

The operatives eventually stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis, where they were met with gunfire from the suspects, prompting a decisive response that resulted in the neutralization of two kidnappers, while other gang members escaped with gunshot wounds. A subsequent search of the neutralized suspects yielded several items, including an AK-47 rifle, two mobile phones, and a suspected ransom bag.

The recovered items also included other exhibits linked to the kidnapping operation, which have been secured as evidence, while the corpses of the neutralized suspects have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy. Efforts are currently underway to track down the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation for their courage and professionalism, reaffirming the command's commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the state.
