Law enforcement detains multiple cops caught in online bribery clip

The Ondo State Police Command has taken four of its officers into custody, after they were filmed allegedly soliciting money from a driver on the Ijebu-Ode–Ore–Benin Expressway, in a video that gained widespread attention online.

Those arrested include ASP Elomore Sodayo, with AP/No. 207454, as well as Inspectors Adefila Adewale, AP/No. 332012, Olorunfemi Opeyemi, AP/No. 332449, and Odusola Peter, AP/No. 332369, according to a statement released on Friday.

Felix Ohagwu, the state Commissioner of Police, addressed the media at the command headquarters in Akure on Friday, emphasizing that the police would not tolerate indiscipline or unprofessional behavior in any form.

A thorough investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and assess the level of culpability of each officer involved, Ohagwu announced.

Ohagwu reaffirmed that the police is a disciplined and professional institution, which does not condone misconduct, incivility, or any actions that could erode public trust in the Force.

He stressed that all officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, respect the dignity of all individuals, and strictly adhere to the Force's Code of Conduct and Standard Operating Procedures.

The commissioner underscored that the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, incivility, or actions that could undermine public confidence, exacerbate ethnic divisions, or tarnish the reputation of the Force.

Ohagwu assured the public that the investigation would be conducted in a thorough and impartial manner to establish the facts of the case, and any officer found guilty would face appropriate disciplinary action.
