Law enforcement calls on Borno community to provide valuable information

Zachariah Achinyan, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Intelligence Department, has urged Borno State residents to provide security forces with reliable information, guaranteeing the confidentiality of informants' identities.

Achinyan made this appeal on Monday during a visit to Maiduguri, where he was accompanied by Zango Baba, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning.

He emphasized that community intelligence is vital to contemporary policing and effective crime prevention, stressing that the police cannot operate without the support of the community.

Achinyan quoted the Inspector-General of Police as saying that the police need to collaborate with the community, stating that without the community's input, the police would lack the necessary guidance to maintain law and order in the region.

He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to upholding professionalism and accountability, and that any information provided by the community would be treated with confidentiality and used to benefit the community as a whole.

Achinyan assured the community that providing valuable information to the police would not only help themselves but also their entire community, and that the police are mandated by the constitution to serve the public.

He encouraged the community to collaborate with the police by sharing information, saying that criminals live among the community, not with the police, and that if community members see something, they should say something.

The Inspector-General of Police has committed to strengthening partnerships with communities and stakeholders to enhance public trust, improve intelligence sharing, and promote sustainable peace and security, according to Achinyan.

During a separate meeting with officers and men of the Borno State Command, the visiting Deputy Inspectors-General commended the personnel for their resilience in counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

The DIGs encouraged the officers to remain disciplined and proactive in addressing emerging security threats through enhanced intelligence gathering and community collaboration.

The visit was attended by senior police officers, including AIG Usman Mu’azu Mohammed, Commandant of the Police College Maiduguri, AIG Dahiru Mohammed of Zone 15, and Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid of the Borno State Command.

Representatives from the Police Community Relations Committee, Police Officers’ Wives Association, traditional rulers, and religious leaders were also in attendance.
