Law enforcement brings order following retaliatory violence in Kogi village

Calm has been restored in Abugi and its surrounding communities by the Kogi State Police Command, following a series of reprisal killings in the area.

A statement released on Sunday by ASP Salisu Afusat, the Command's spokesperson, outlined the measures taken to prevent further violence and restore peace in the affected communities.

No fewer than five persons were killed in the reprisal attack, which occurred after a herder was killed in the community on Thursday, sparking the violent retaliation.

According to Afusat, the Area Command in Lokoja collaborated with security stakeholders and community leaders to engage in discussions focused on reconciliation and addressing the root causes of the conflict.

The State Criminal Investigation Department has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, with efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in the killings currently underway.

Afusat stated that the investigation will be pursued diligently, and any suspects found guilty will face the appropriate legal consequences, with personnel deployed to prevent further violence and protect lives and property.

Thanks to the interventions and stakeholder engagements, normalcy has been restored to Abugi and its environs, with ongoing security monitoring to ensure the peace is sustained.

The restoration of calm does not mean the investigation has been halted, as the Command remains committed to identifying and bringing to justice those responsible for the loss of lives, according to Afusat.
