Law enforcement boosts safety measures in anticipation of Bauchi local government election

The Bauchi State Police Command has beefed up security across the state ahead of the 2026 Local Government Council elections scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2026.

The command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said it had put in place comprehensive security arrangements to ensure the peaceful, credible and hitch-free conduct of the election across the 20 local government areas of the state.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.

Habib said, “As part of the preparations, the command has strategically deployed personnel across the state to reinforce security and guarantee the safety of lives, property and electoral materials before, during and after the elections.”

The command warned political actors and residents against acts capable of disrupting the electoral process, stressing that violators would face the full weight of the law.

The PPRO said, “The command hereby warns that any act of electoral violence, ballot box snatching, thuggery, vote buying and selling, intimidation of voters, or disruption of the electoral process will be met with the full weight of the law.

“Perpetrators, sponsors and their accomplices, irrespective of status or affiliation, will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.”

Aliyu also assured residents that security personnel deployed for the election would maintain professionalism, neutrality and respect for human rights while operating in accordance with extant laws.

The statement added, “Aliyu further assures residents that all security personnel deployed for the exercise will conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism, neutrality and respect for human rights, and in strict compliance with extant laws.”

The command urged residents to come out and exercise their franchise without fear, while calling on members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.

“The command therefore reassures the good people of Bauchi State of a safe and secure environment to exercise their franchise. Citizens are encouraged to come out en masse to vote and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s emergency lines,” the statement said.
