Law enforcement apprehends trio of alleged destroyers of property in Yobe, retrieves pilfered wiring

The Yobe State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its crackdown on vandalism, arresting three suspects and recovering a cache of stolen goods, including power cables, transformer components, and vehicles allegedly used in the illicit activities.

These arrests are part of the command's sustained efforts to safeguard critical national infrastructure and combat the destruction of public utilities throughout the state, as announced by the Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, on Thursday.

A 27-year-old aluminium pot maker, Abubakar Idris, from the Sabon Gari area in Bade Local Government Area, was apprehended on July 23, 2026, at approximately 1 p.m. while in possession of suspected stolen power cables, marking the initial breakthrough in the operation.

Following Idris' arrest, two large bundles of power cables were seized from him, providing crucial evidence in the case, and subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two other suspects, identified as 25-year-old Samaila Suleiman and 26-year-old Ibrahim Ado.

The police also recovered a tricycle, commonly known as a Keke NAPEP, with the registration number 497 DPH, which was allegedly used to transport the stolen items, as well as an unregistered Boxer motorcycle believed to have been used during the operation.

The command is continuing its investigations to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large and to determine the source and ownership of the recovered items, ensuring a thorough and exhaustive probe.

Commenting on the development, Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to combating vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage, emphasizing the need for collective action to protect public infrastructure.

The commissioner stated that the Yobe State Police Command has zero tolerance for vandalism, destruction of public infrastructure, and other acts of economic sabotage, and has directed all tactical and investigative units to intensify their efforts to track down fleeing members of the criminal syndicate.

The command is urging residents to provide timely and credible information to support the police in preventing attacks on critical infrastructure and enhancing security across the state, appealing for public vigilance and cooperation in this endeavour.
