Law enforcement apprehends sect member, seizes firearm in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected cult member, Sunday Samuel, and recovered a locally made gun from him in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was arrested at about 11:45 pm on August 7 following credible intelligence received by police operatives at the Efon Division regarding his presence in the town.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.

Abutu said, “Upon receipt of the information, operatives immediately commenced investigation. The investigation led to the suspect’s arrest. A locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone were recovered from him.”

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Michael Falade, had ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ado Ekiti, for further investigation.

He stated, “The commissioner assures residents that the command remains committed to preventing cult-related activities and other forms of criminality across the state.

“The command therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the police, as discreet monitoring and security operations are ongoing.”

The arrest came amid efforts by security agencies in Ekiti State to curb cult-related activities and other forms of criminality through intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted operations.
