Law enforcement apprehends pair, retrieves pilfered vehicles in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry in Akure, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
nThe case began on February 27, 2026, when Adeyemi Robert reported that his Toyota Camry saloon car, with registration number AH173WWD and custom colour, had been stolen from Sijuade Street, Akure, where he had parked it on February 14, 2026, while attending a social event.
nUpon discovering the theft, Adeyemi Robert immediately reported the incident to the authorities, prompting detectives to launch an investigation into the matter, utilizing various strategies to track down the stolen vehicle and identify those responsible.
nThrough their diligent efforts, police operatives successfully located the stolen vehicle in the possession of Awolo Akingbade, a 40-year-old man, who claimed to have purchased the car, leading to his invitation for questioning.
nFurther investigation revealed that Awolo Akingbade had acquired the vehicle from Adeyemi David, the principal suspect, who was subsequently apprehended by the authorities.
nPreliminary findings suggest that Adeyemi David allegedly stole the vehicle and then sold it to Awolo Akingbade, who was unaware of the car's stolen status.
nThe stolen Toyota Camry has been recovered and is currently being held as an exhibit at the police station, while both suspects have provided useful information to aid in the ongoing investigation.
nFollowing the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects have been formally charged in court, marking a significant milestone in the case.
nCP Adebowale Lawal, the Commissioner of Police for Ondo State Command, has commended the operatives involved in the case for their professionalism and diligence, which ultimately led to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.
nThe Commissioner reiterated the Command's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state, warning individuals engaged in criminal activities to cease their actions.
nThe police are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible, and actionable information to assist in preventing and combating crime in the state.
