Law enforcement apprehends 22-year-old alleged cult member in Anambra, seizes guns

A 22-year-old suspected cultist, Favour Izunna, also known as "Njoku", has been apprehended by the Anambra State Police Command for his alleged role in murder and kidnapping activities in Obosi community, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state and surrounding areas.

The arrest was made by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Unit, Enugwu Ukwu, during a raid on a criminal hideout in Obosi, as disclosed by the Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement released on Wednesday.

Among the items seized during the raid were one pump-action gun, five live cartridges, one locally-made Beretta pistol, and seven rounds of 7.5mm live ammunition, according to Ikenga.

The suspect is reportedly a member of the Vikings Confraternity, a dreaded cult group, where he serves as an executioner, responsible for terrorizing Obosi and its environs.

Following the confession of a notorious suspect arrested on April 30, 2026, the Anambra State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing investigations, as stated in the release.

The suspect's confession revealed his involvement in the gruesome murder of about five persons in Obosi, with three victims identified as Somtochukwu Alfred, Udechukwu Izuchukwu, and Izuchukwu Obi.

Additionally, the suspect admitted to participating in several kidnapping operations within Anambra State, including those involving victims Emeka Chukwuka and Chinelo Onyeka, among others.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered intensified efforts to apprehend other gang members and alleged sponsors who are currently at large.
