Lagos NURTW leader throws weight behind KWAM 1's daughter's state legislative bid

Mustapha Adekunle, also known as Sego, the Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, has thrown his weight behind Damilola Ayinde Marshal, the daughter of renowned Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, also known as KWAM 1, in her bid for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In a brief video posted on Damilola's Snapchat handle on Wednesday, she was seen gifting Sego with customized caps during a meeting that appeared to be part of her political consultations ahead of the All Progressives Congress primaries.

Sego, the Lagos NURTW chairman, was heard in the video urging party faithful and supporters to rally behind Damilola's ambition, saying "When it is primary election, please come out en masse and vote for Dami, Omo Anifowose, as she is the only one who can bring about the desired change.

Sego further emphasized that the progress of Surulere is a collective responsibility, stating "The progress of our Surulere is our collective responsibility, it is our time," in a clear show of support for Damilola's candidacy.

This endorsement is the latest addition to the growing list of supporters backing Damilola's recently announced intention to represent Surulere Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Prior to Sego's endorsement, Damilola, a lawyer and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, had taken to Instagram to declare her intention to contest the seat, expressing her excitement to serve the people of Surulere Constituency 2.

In her Instagram post, Damilola wrote "I am excited to share that I, Barr. Damilola Ayinde Marshal, am stepping forward to serve the good people of Surulere Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly," highlighting her professional experience as adequate preparation for public service and representation.

Damilola described herself as a results-driven individual, stating "I am a woman of excellence and results, I am ready to serve and lead, and with my background, I am fully prepared and ready to fight for what truly matters."

She also vowed to be the voice of the youths in the House, and described herself as part of a new generation of leaders committed to development and youth inclusion, saying "I promise to be the voice of the youths in the House."

Damilola further emphasized her commitment to representing her people, saying "As a young woman, I believe this is exactly what my people need right now, and that is why I decided to step forward," in a clear expression of her desire to serve.

Damilola's candidacy is expected to pose a challenge to the current lawmaker representing the constituency, Mosunmola Rotimi Sangodara, who occupies the seat under the All Progressives Congress, as she seeks to replace her in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
