Lagos legislator hands out N230m in financial assistance to constituents

The senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Wasiu Eshinlokun, on Monday distributed over one million exercise books to public secondary school students and N200m cash grants to 2,000 beneficiaries across the district.

Speaking during an empowerment programme held in Lagos, Eshinlokun said the initiative was aimed at positively impacting the lives of youths and supporting education in public schools.

According to him, the event was anchored on the theme, “Sustaining the Renewed Hope Agenda: Investing in Education, Community Welfare and Future Leadership.”

Eshinlokun said the beneficiaries of the exercise books included students in junior and senior secondary schools, as well as 300 students in tertiary institutions who received educational support of N100,000 each.

He said, “This theme captures the essence of our journey, our commitment to building a future where every child is educated, every community is supported, and every young person is empowered to lead.

n

“We have 166 junior and senior secondary schools with 186,000 students. We are giving each of those students six exercise books. We have over a million exercise books today. Apart from that, students of tertiary institutions, about 300 of them, will receive scholarships.”

The senator explained that the intervention was intended to ensure students completed their education seamlessly and became productive members of society.

Eshinlokun further disclosed that 2,000 beneficiaries across the senatorial district would receive N100,000 each as part of the empowerment programme.

He said, “This is our contribution, and we will continue as God permits. We are going to give N100,000 cash to each of them through their local governments and interest groups.”

The lawmaker said the beneficiaries were selected across the 93 wards in the senatorial district, with each ward allocated funds to nominate beneficiaries.

The senator also declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, describing the endorsement as a vote of confidence in the President’s policies and reforms.

He further commended the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for their support and leadership.

Speaking at the event, the Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Cornelius Ojelabi, commended the senator for prioritising education and youth development.

He said, “I am sure this investment will linger in the minds of the children for years to come. More importantly, the distribution of exercise books complements the efforts of parents.

“I want to commend his effort for choosing this particular path and making sure that our children are taken care of.”
