Lagos Electricity Distribution Company declares planned blackout following blaze in Lagos

Efforts are currently underway by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company to revive power supply in certain areas of Lagos, following a significant outage that occurred due to a fire along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

A statement issued by the company on Saturday revealed that the power disruption was sparked by a collision between a vehicle and a stationary gas tanker, which subsequently caught fire.

The fire resulted in substantial damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, affecting crucial conductors and overhead line equipment, and this information was conveyed in a statement that outlined the circumstances surrounding the power outage.

The statement specified that the fire, which broke out after the vehicle collision with the stationary gas tanker, led to significant damage to the feeders and disrupted power supply in the affected areas.

The company's technical team is diligently working to replace the damaged components and restore power supply as quickly and safely as possible, and an apology was extended to those inconvenienced by the unforeseen incident.

Areas affected by the power outage include Medallion Feeder, Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan, all of which are located on the Ibeju 33kV feeder.

The power outage occurred in the aftermath of a tragic gas explosion in the Ajah axis of Lagos, which resulted in two fatalities and the destruction of several properties, including warehouses and roadside shops.

The gas explosion, which took place at the Tera Ahmed bus stop in Sangotedo, was caused by a collision between a gas tanker and a tipper truck in the early hours of Saturday.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to exercise caution while the repair works are being carried out, as the technical teams from EKEDC work to safely restore power to homes and businesses.
