Lagos commences 2026 promotion exercise for public servants

The Lagos State Government has commenced its 2026 promotion exercise for public servants, covering officers on Grade Levels 01–05 in the mainstream civil service and those on Grade Levels 01–16 in parastatal organisations.

The state government announced the development on its X handle on Tuesday, saying the exercise was part of ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring career advancement in the public service was anchored on competence, capacity development and performance.

The exercise comprises two components: the Revised Structured Training Programme for officers on Grade Levels 01–05 in the mainstream civil service and Grade Levels 01–10 in parastatal organisations, and the Structured Evaluation Assessment Programme for officers on Grade Levels 12–16 in parastatal organisations.

“The exercise is aimed at ensuring that career advancement in the public service is anchored on competence, capacity development and performance, in line with the state government’s commitment to a merit-driven system,” the statement read.

According to the state government, a total of 5,258 officers are participating in the exercise, with 388 undergoing SEAP and 4,870 taking part in the structured training programme, being held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo, and the Women Development Centre, Agege.

The statement noted that he Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, who monitored the exercise, commended the orderly conduct of participants and the seamless coordination at the centres.

He urged officers to approach the process with dedication, adding that the government was committed to building a results-oriented workforce.

“Ayantayo added that the government is focused on building an agile and smart workforce, noting that the introduction of SEAP would further ensure that promotions are tied to demonstrable knowledge, skills and competence,” the statement added.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Olubusola Abidakun, who was also present, expressed satisfaction with what she observed at the venues.

“She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to sustaining reforms that enhance productivity in the public service,” the statement added.

The exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, will run through the week and into the following week, featuring training sessions and assessments designed to prepare officers for higher responsibilities.
