Kwara welcomes entry grade level 10 for graduate nursing officers

The Kwara State Hospitals Management Board has welcomed the approval and adoption by the Kwara State Government of the enhanced entry point for the Nursing Officer Cadre in the state civil service.

A statement by the Press Secretary of the Hospital Management Board, Adamu Sabi, made available to journalists on Tuesday in Ilorin, said the Executive Secretary of the Board, Abdulraheem Malik, welcomed the development at his office on Tuesday.

The approval followed a decision by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, in line with the resolution of the National Council on Establishments, to raise the entry grade level for qualified Nursing Officers from Salary Grade Level 09 to Grade Level 10.

Malik described the approval as “a significant milestone for the nursing profession and the healthcare system in Kwara State”, noting that it appropriately recognised the academic and professional requirements associated with the Bachelor of Nursing Science qualification, including the mandatory internship, National Youth Service Corps programme and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

“This approval is a significant step towards recognising the academic and professional demands of the nursing profession. It will strengthen our ability to attract and retain qualified nurses, improve staff motivation, address critical manpower gaps, and ultimately enhance healthcare delivery across our hospitals,” Dr Malik said.

He commended the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his sustained investment in the health sector and commitment to the welfare and professional development of healthcare workers in the state.

According to him, the policy further demonstrates the administration’s commitment to building a motivated and sustainable healthcare workforce while making Kwara State an attractive destination for skilled health professionals.

He added that “the enhanced entry point would further support efforts to strengthen the nursing workforce and ensure that qualified professionals are appropriately recognised for their education, training, and professional responsibilities.”

Malik assured the people of Kwara State of the Board’s continued commitment to supporting policies that promote staff welfare, strengthen the healthcare workforce and improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare delivery across the state.
