Kwara University receives approval from National Universities Commission for 13 academic courses

The National Universities Commission has granted full accreditation to 13 academic programmes at Muhammad Kamalud-deen University, Ilorin, Kwara State, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s rapid academic development less than three years after it commenced operations.

The Pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rasheed Jimoh, disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH in Ilorin on Tuesday, describing the outcome as a 100 per cent success following the accreditation exercise conducted in November 2025.

“In November 2025, 13 programmes were subjected to accreditation by the National Universities Commission, and I am pleased to state that all 13 programmes passed the exercise, representing a 100 per cent success rate,” he said.

He listed the accredited programmes under the Faculty of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences as B.A. Arabic Language, B.A. English, B.A. History and International Studies, B.A. Islamic Studies, B.Sc. Accounting, B.Sc. Business Administration and B.Sc. Economics.

“For clarity and public record, these programmes met the national benchmarks in curriculum quality, staffing strength, infrastructure, library resources and institutional governance as prescribed by the NUC,” he added.

Jimoh also said the Faculty of Science, Computing and Information Technology secured accreditation for B.Sc. Chemistry, B.Sc. Physics with Electronics, B.Sc. Plant Science and Biotechnology, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Cybersecurity and B.Sc. Software Engineering.

“Each of these programmes underwent rigorous evaluation and was found to have satisfied the required standards in both academic delivery and infrastructural provisions,” he said.

According to him, the accreditation has positioned the university for full participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

“The implication is that the university has successfully crossed all regulatory hurdles, including those required for NYSC mobilisation, and our graduates will not face any limitations,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also stressed that the university maintains an inclusive academic environment that accommodates students of different religious backgrounds.

“We have Christian students who are given absolute freedom to practise their religion and attend church services without any restriction, and there is no form of discrimination whatsoever,” he said.

Jimoh further disclosed that the institution recently underwent an institutional accreditation exercise by the NUC between April 20 and 22, 2026, as part of efforts to upgrade from a provisional to a full operational licence.

“The exercise was successfully completed, and we received commendations from the evaluation team on our facilities, governance structure and quality of academic delivery,” he added.

He noted that the university’s achievement distinguishes it among institutions licensed in the same period.

“Among universities licensed in 2023, we are the only institution to have achieved programme accreditation at this stage, which is a strong indicator of our commitment to quality assurance,” he said.

Explaining the strategy behind the success, Jimoh said the university began early preparations and strictly complied with regulatory requirements.

“It is a mind of focus. From the moment we commenced academic activities, we started preparing to meet NUC accreditation requirements, learning from the challenges faced by other institutions,” he said.

He also commended the Federal Government for enforcing quality standards across Nigerian universities.

“We commend the Federal Government for setting standards that ensure the delivery of quality education, as it strengthens the credibility of the university system,” he said.

Jimoh reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, research and innovation, adding that plans were underway to expand programmes and strengthen global collaborations.

“Our goal is to produce graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally upright and socially responsible, contributing meaningfully to national development,” he said.
