Kwara state lawyers warn of impending work stoppage due to outstanding benefits.

A seven-day notice of indefinite strike has been served to the Kwara State government by law officers in the state's Ministry of Justice, citing unpaid statutory allowances and the lack of salary harmonization with magistrates in the state judiciary.

This move was initiated by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, which issued the notice in a letter dated July 20, 2026, addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The letter, signed by Acting Chairman Keyinde Ayorinde and Secretary Tolulope Oniyide, was obtained on Wednesday and outlines the association's plans for industrial action from July 20 to July 26, after which an indefinite strike will commence if their demands are not met.

According to the law officers, they have made repeated appeals to the governor and the Office of the Head of Service regarding the payment of outstanding allowances, but the government has allegedly remained unresponsive to their requests.

The association's letter states that despite making several representations to the governor through the Office of the Head of Service, their efforts have been unsuccessful in securing the payment of outstanding statutory allowances and the implementation of salary harmonization.

The outstanding entitlements, as listed by the association, include the unpaid balance of the 50 per cent furniture allowance for 2020 and robe allowances for the years 2024, 2025, and 2026.

The law officers are also seeking the implementation of harmonized salaries, allowances, and conditions of service with those of magistrates in the Kwara State Judiciary, as approved in 2005.

The association emphasized that their demands are directly tied to their welfare and the critical nature of their duties, which are essential to the administration of justice and the functioning of the government.
