Kwara okays 30% peculiar allowance for media houses, agencies, parastatals

The Kwara State Government has approved the payment of a 30 per cent Peculiar Allowance for workers in media houses, agencies, and parastatals who were previously excluded from the earlier implementation granted to mainstream civil servants.

The approval was announced on Monday in Ilorin through the Office of the Head of Service, following what the government described as a renewed push to deepen equity and inclusion across the state’s public service.

The Acting Head of Service, Olufunke Shittu, disclosed the development in a statement issued by the Press Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Okanlawon Solomon, noting that the decision aligns with ongoing welfare reforms.

Shittu said, “This approval reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to fairness, workers’ welfare, and inclusiveness across all cadres of the state workforce.”

She explained that the inclusion of agencies, parastatals, and media houses was designed to correct earlier disparities and ensure that all categories of public servants benefit equitably from state welfare policies.

“The implementation of the 30 per cent Peculiar Allowance will take effect from June 1, 2026, and all affected establishments are to ensure strict compliance,” she added.

Shittu commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what she described as consistent interventions aimed at improving the living conditions and morale of workers across the state.

She also urged workers in the affected institutions to remain dedicated and supportive of government programmes, stressing that improved welfare must be matched with greater commitment to service delivery.

She further revealed that salaries for the month of May had been paid ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to enable workers to prepare adequately and celebrate with ease.

“Government wishes all workers and Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyful Sallah celebration, while praying for sustained peace and prosperity in Kwara State,” Shittu stated.

She extended felicitations to workers across the state, expressing optimism that the new welfare measures would further strengthen harmony and efficiency within the public service.
