Kwara gov appoints PDP chieftain Ameerul Hajj for 2027

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has appointed a former member of the House of Representatives, Mashood Mustapha, as the Ameerul Hajj for the state’s 2027 Muslim pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Mustapha, who is the Wakili of the Ilorin Emirate, will lead and coordinate the state’s delegation while working with government agencies involved in the organisation and administration of the annual pilgrimage.

The appointment was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola, a copy of which was obtained by PUNCH Online in Ilorin.

According to the statement, the appointment forms part of the state government’s preparations for the 2027 Hajj exercise.

“The Ameerul Hajj will coordinate the state’s 2027 Hajj exercise along with other statutory bodies at various levels of government,” the statement said.

The government described Mustapha as a seasoned entrepreneur, public servant and community leader, adding that he is the Chairman of Crystal Group of Companies.

The statement also highlighted his previous public service experience, noting that he served as a member of the Kwara State Executive Council before his election to the National Assembly.

Mustapha represented the Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015.

Beyond his political career, the statement said the former lawmaker, popularly known as MM, had remained active in business and community leadership.

The new Ameerul Hajj is also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and had contested for the party’s ticket to represent Kwara Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.

Following the emergence of the incumbent Senator, Saliu Mustapha, as the PDP candidate, Mustapha accepted the outcome and pledged his support for the senator.

His appointment therefore comes as part of the state’s preparations to organise the 2027 pilgrimage, with the Ameerul Hajj expected to work alongside the statutory bodies responsible for the exercise.

Mustapha’s educational background includes studies at Kwara State Polytechnic, Lagos State University and the Rome Business School in Italy.
