Kwara Christians back Tinubu’s re-election, Mustapha for gov

A coalition of Christian leaders and political stakeholders in Kwara State has declared support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and the governorship ambition of Kwara Central Senator, Saliu Mustapha, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PUNCH Online reports that the coalition announced its position in Ilorin on Monday during an interdenominational prayer gathering organised by Christian Leaders in Politics.

Christian leaders from different denominations gathered to pray for national and state leadership, describing their stance as one of consultation and spiritual discernment.

Speaking at the event, President of the Christian Leaders Fellowship, Pastor Abel Aiyedogbon, said the decision reflected what he called an uncommon relationship between Mustapha and the Christian community in Kwara State.

He said, “In over 40 years of my experience in Kwara State, I have not seen a public office holder who has related with Christians the way Senator Saliu Mustapha has done.”

He explained that the gathering was not only spiritual but also reflective, especially as political activities begin to build toward the APC primaries and the 2027 elections.

“We are here to pray for peace, for Nigeria, and for Kwara State, but also to seek God’s direction as the political season approaches,” he added.

Also speaking, Pastor Jacob Jonathan Elegun of Faith Contenders International Ministry said Christian stakeholders had resolved to actively support the senator, citing what they described as inclusive leadership and accessibility.

“Senator Saliu Mustapha has consistently shown that he is non-discriminatory in leadership and public service.

n

“He has given Christians their rightful recognition and support despite religious differences,” he said.

He further stated that mobilisation efforts were already being considered across communities in the state.

“We are ready to move from house to house and community to community to mobilise support for him,” he said.

Another cleric at the gathering, former President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev. V.S.A. Dada, led prayers for peace and unity, urging continued intercession for national leaders.

“We are praying for the success of President Tinubu, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and for stability in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.

“We also pray against insecurity and every form of unrest affecting communities in our state,” he said.

He emphasised that sustained prayer remained essential for national stability.

“Only God can guide leadership in times like this, and that is why the church must remain consistent in prayer,” he added.
