Kogi university kicks out eight undergrads for cheating on tests

The Confluence University of Science and Technology, situated in Osara, Kogi State, has taken drastic action against eight students, expelling them from the institution due to their involvement in examination malpractice.

This decision was formally announced in a letter signed by the Deputy Registrar of Academics, Mr Eli Gbadufu, which was made available to the press on Wednesday in Lokoja.

The university's Senate ratified this decision during its 30th regular meeting, which took place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, as stated in the letter.

According to the letter, the expulsion of these students was a direct result of an investigation conducted by the Examination Misconduct Committee into various infractions that occurred during the first semester examinations of the 2025/2026 academic session.

The students in question were found guilty of the alleged offenses after undergoing due process, in accordance with the university's academic policies as outlined in the Student Handbook, specifically on Page 33, Item 19.

The institution has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards academic dishonesty, underscoring its dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity.

The eight expelled students hail from diverse departments and levels of study, including Ogedemgbe A. Nelson, a 100L Economics student, Yakubu Abdulrazak Adavize, a 300L Library and Information Science student, and Olowu Samuel Ayomide, a 200L Mining Engineering student.

Other students who faced expulsion include Usman Bilal, a 400L Information Technology student, Adams Michael, a 200L Information Technology student, Ale David, a 200L Mechanical Engineering student, Habiba Muhammed, a 100L Business Administration student, and Mustapha Faith Adetutu, a 200L Agricultural Science student.
