Kogi Polytechnic expels 229 undergraduates due to subpar grades

The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic has given its seal of approval to the first semester results for the 2025/2026 academic session, while also taking the decision to withdraw a total of 229 students due to their poor academic performance.

This decision was made public through a statement released on Thursday by John Amos Onimisi, the Acting Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocols at the institution, based in Lokoja.

The decision to withdraw the students was made during the Academic Board meeting, which took place on May 12, 2026, under the chairmanship of Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, the Rector of the institution.

The meeting was attended by Principal Officers, Deans, Heads of Departments, and other members of the Academic Board, who engaged in extensive discussions on various academic matters pertaining to the institution.

According to Onimisi, the approval of the results was preceded by a thorough verification exercise conducted by the Academic Board Central Results Verification Committee, which carefully examined and authenticated submissions from the different departments and schools.

The committee's report played a crucial role in guiding the Academic Board's deliberations and ultimate decisions regarding the results, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and adherence to the institution's academic regulations.

Onimisi stated that the Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, commended the committee members for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism in carrying out the verification exercise.

The efforts of the committee have contributed significantly to upholding the institution's academic integrity and maintaining high educational standards, Onimisi added.

The withdrawal of the 229 students is intended to preserve the quality of certificates issued by the institution and maintain academic excellence, in line with the institution's academic regulations.
