King Charles receives Nigerian high commissioner Dalhatu at St James’s Palace

King Charles III has formally received Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu, at St James’s Palace in London during the presentation of his Letters of Credence.

Dalhatu, accompanied by his wife, visited the palace on Wednesday, in a ceremony that officially confirmed his appointment as Nigeria’s representative to the United Kingdom.

The presentation of Letters of Credence is a key diplomatic tradition through which ambassadors and high commissioners are formally accredited by the host country’s head of state before assuming full diplomatic responsibilities.

The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce on Thursday in a post on its X handle congratulated Dalhatu following the formal presentation of his Letters of Credence to King Charles III, officially marking the commencement of his tenure as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

The chamber described the development as a significant milestone in Nigeria-United Kingdom diplomatic relations.

Dalhatu recently presented his Letters of Credence to King Charles III at St James’s Palace in London, in line with diplomatic protocol for newly appointed envoys to the United Kingdom.

The chamber noted that the appointment comes at a crucial period in UK-Nigeria relations, following President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to Windsor Castle and amid expanding trade and bilateral cooperation between both countries.

According to the statement, the chamber expressed confidence in Dalhatu’s ability to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the UK.

“The Nigerian- British Chamber of Commerce extends its best wishes and Congratulations to Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu on the formal presentation of his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Charles III, officially marking the commencement of his tenure as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

“This important milestone comes at a defining moment in UK–Nigeria relations, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent State Visit to Windsor Castle and amid growing bilateral trade and cooperation between the two nations,” the statement read.

The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce also expressed optimism about improved collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission under Dalhatu’s leadership.

“We are confident that Ambassador Dalhatu’s leadership and diplomatic engagement will further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, deepen economic collaboration, and create greater opportunities for Nigerians and businesses across both countries,” it added.

Nigeria and the United Kingdom maintain longstanding diplomatic and economic relations, with both countries collaborating in areas including trade, investment, education, security and cultural exchange.

The UK remains one of Nigeria’s major trading partners and home to a large Nigerian diaspora community, which contributes significantly to commercial and social ties between both nations.
