Key Wike ally, Ejekwu, wins Rivers PDP nomination for governor

A former Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, Sam Ejekwu, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state for the 2027 election.

Ejekwu, a known ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was declared as the consensus candidate by an electoral committee headed by Tajudeen Yusuf after affirmation votes from the local government areas of the state.

Ejekwu hails from Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

Hhas served as a Caretaker Chairman of Port Harcourt twice.

The state spokesman for the PDP, Dr Kenneth Yowika, confirmed that Ejekwu contested as the only candidate and that the process was smooth and transparent

Ejekwu expressed confidence in the strength of the PDP in Rivers and highlighting the massive turnout of supporters as well as the party’s readiness to secure victory in the upcoming elections.

He also hailed the Rainbow Coalition ped by the FCT Minister in the state saying it had the potential to shape political alignments aimed at moving the state forward.

Ejekwu’s emergence as the PDP candidate in the state and and Kingsley Chinda in the All Progressives Congress means that the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition has produced candidates in the two main political parties in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
