Key Abia Labour Party leaders establish tactical teams, reiterate backing for Otti

Chieftains of the Labour Party in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, have reaffirmed their unwavering support for Governor Alex Otti and constituted three strategic committees to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued on Monday after an extensive deliberation at a strategic meeting convened by the stakeholders’ chairman and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba.

The stakeholders commended Otti for what they described as the remarkable transformation taking place across Abia State, particularly the execution of strategic projects in Nsulu, including the Abia International Airport, the Umuomaiukwu Smart School and several road infrastructure projects.

They unanimously resolved to strengthen unity within the Labour Party in Nsulu, stressing that every member, irrespective of when he or she joined the party, enjoys equal status and should be accorded mutual respect, inclusiveness and equal opportunity to contribute to the party’s growth.

The communiqué, jointly endorsed by Ajagba and the Joint Acting Secretaries, Dr Chibuzo Emeruwa and Dr Enyichukwu Olumba, said the forum resolved to intensify grassroots sensitisation and mobilisation across all communities in Nsulu “with a view to effectively communicating the achievements of the present administration and consolidating support for the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

The communiqué added, “We reaffirmed our commitment to supporting all candidates of the Labour Party at every level of the forthcoming elections, recognising that the success of the party depends on collective responsibility, unity of purpose and coordinated action.

“We welcome assurances by the Chief of Staff that compensation for persons affected by the Abia Airport land acquisition has been approved by the state government. We are confident that all eligible beneficiaries will receive their entitlements accordingly.

“We commended the ongoing government efforts to address the electricity challenge in Nsulu nation, especially in Umunna Nsulu. We are optimistic that work would commence in the near future.

“We encouraged eligible indigenes of Nsulu to take full advantage of the numerous empowerment and capacity-building programmes of the Abia State Government, including TECHRISE, the Abia Leadership Academy, the Abia Smart School Initiative and other youth development programmes of the state government.”

To facilitate the implementation of the resolutions, the stakeholders approved the constitution of three strategic committees: the Empowerment Committee, the Voter Education and Sensitisation Committee, and the Mobilisation Committee.

The Empowerment Committee was tasked “to identify, profile and coordinate eligible beneficiaries for various government empowerment, entrepreneurship, employment and capacity-building programmes.”

The Voter Education and Sensitisation Committee was established “to educate eligible voters on the importance of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection, civic participation and the achievements of the Labour Party-led administration.”

The Mobilisation Committee was mandated to strengthen party structures at the grassroots, foster reconciliation among members where necessary, coordinate stakeholder engagement and mobilise support for all Labour Party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The stakeholders also appealed for the accelerated execution of ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects in Nsulu, particularly strategic road projects and other critical public infrastructure capable of enhancing socio-economic development across the area.

They urged all members and supporters of the Labour Party to conduct themselves with maturity, civility and political decorum throughout the electioneering period by promoting issue-based campaigns, peaceful coexistence and responsible democratic participation.

The forum further expressed appreciation to Ajagba for what it described as his purposeful leadership and commitment to the development of Nsulu, reaffirming its collective resolve to work in unity towards sustaining good governance and strengthening democratic participation.
