Kebbi State Governor Vows to Implement Broad-Based Reforms Following APC Vetting Process

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has cleared a crucial hurdle in his bid for re-election, successfully navigating the screening process conducted by the All Progressives Congress national leadership in anticipation of the 2027 governorship election.

The screening exercise took place on Friday in Abuja, with a committee headed by Nentawe Yilwatda overseeing the process at the Plateau State Liaison Office.

Following the screening, Yilwatda extended his congratulations to Governor Idris, confirming that he had met the necessary requirements to contest the election, as stipulated by the party and the law.

Yilwatda stated that the committee's role was to screen sitting governors seeking re-election, as well as those aspiring to Senate seats, with Surajudeen Basiru serving as the committee's secretary alongside members of the National Working Committee.

In response to the outcome, Governor Idris expressed his gratitude to the APC leadership for endorsing his candidacy and pledged to continue driving development across Kebbi State if re-elected.

Idris thanked the APC national leadership for deeming him worthy to be the party's flag bearer in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, and also acknowledged the support and confidence of Kebbi State residents in his administration.

The governor assured that his second term in office would usher in more developmental projects across all sectors of the economy, and further promised to sustain and expand the programmes initiated by his administration for the benefit of Kebbi State and the country at large.

Idris was accompanied to the screening by senior party officials and government functionaries, including Kebbi APC chairman Abubakar Kana-Zuru, former governor Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, Acting Speaker Samaila Muhammad Bagudo, and Secretary to the State Government Yakubu Bala Tafida, among others.

Governor Idris, a former labour leader, was elected governor of Kebbi State in 2023 on the APC platform, succeeding former governor Atiku Bagudu, and has since focused on infrastructure, education, agriculture, and civil service reforms.

The APC's dominance in Kebbi State makes Governor Idris one of the early favourites as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections, with the party remaining the dominant political force in the state.
