Kebbi State Governor Swaps Out Deputy, Selects Replacement Running Mate Ahead of 2027 Election

Nasir Idris, the Governor of Kebbi State, has chosen Alhaji Ibrahim Augie to be his running mate in the 2027 governorship election, taking the place of the current Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida.

This decision was made public on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi by Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, the APC National Organising Secretary, through a statement posted on the state government's X handle.

According to Argungu, the choice to replace the incumbent deputy governor was based on expert legal guidance regarding his eligibility to run.

Argungu stated that the decision to drop Senator Tafida as the running mate for the 2027 election was made with his full understanding and agreement, emphasizing that there was no conflict between Governor Idris and his deputy.

Following this, Argungu announced that Alhaji Ibrahim Augie would be the new running mate for Governor Nasir Idris in the upcoming governorship election.

He urged all politicians, APC members, and supporters across Kebbi State to accept this new development and work together to ensure the party's success in the 2027 election.

Governor Idris also denied any rumors of a disagreement between himself and Senator Tafida, calling for unity, support, and cooperation as his administration continues to develop the state.

Alhaji Ibrahim Augie, the newly selected running mate, previously served as the Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State during the tenure of former Governor Atiku Bagudu and is from Augie Local Government Area.
