Kebbi State Announces Tuesday as a Day of Rest in Celebration of the Islamic Calendar's New Beginning

A public holiday has been declared for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, by the Kebbi State Government, allowing residents, including civil servants, to commemorate the start of the Islamic New Year, 1448 AH.

The declaration was given the green light by Governor Nasir Idris and made public through a statement issued on Monday in Birnin Kebbi by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Hajiya Hafsat Tune.

As a result of the holiday, government offices throughout the state will be closed on Tuesday, with normal official activities set to resume on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

A statement announcing the holiday informed the public and civil servants that Governor Nasir Idris had approved the declaration of Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as a work-free day.

The purpose of the holiday is to give public servants and residents the opportunity to mark the beginning of the Islamic calendar year, as stated in the announcement.

The statement further explained that the holiday is intended to enable public servants to celebrate the commencement of the Islamic New Year, 1448 AH.

The state government encouraged residents to utilize the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and the continued development of Kebbi State and the country as a whole.

Governor Idris extended congratulations to Muslim faithful on witnessing the new Islamic year and urged citizens to reflect on the values of sacrifice, tolerance, and devotion associated with the Hijrah.

Following the one-day public holiday, all government workers are expected to resume duty on Wednesday, June 17, as noted in the statement.
