Kebbi Governor's Support for Tinubu's Second Term Explained by Spokesperson

Abdullahi Idris, the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Kebbi State Governor, has come out in defence of Governor Nasir Idris' backing for President Bola Tinubu, citing the governor's dual responsibility to rally support for the President's 2027 re-election bid.

This defence was outlined in a statement released to journalists on Monday, titled "In Defence of Governor Idris' Support for President Tinubu", which was authored by the governor's aide, Sadaukin Zuru.

According to Sadaukin Zuru, Kebbi State has reaped significant benefits from its affiliation with the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government, a relationship that has yielded substantial gains for the state.

The people of Kebbi, he argued, had explicitly chosen Governor Idris under the APC banner in the 2023 governorship election, which he described as a resounding vote of confidence in the governor's background and commitment to development.

Sadaukin Zuru noted that the principles of multi-party democracy grant Nigerians the freedom to choose their preferred party and direction, a choice that the people of Kebbi State made decisively in 2023 by electing Governor Nasir Idris under the APC.

President Tinubu, he said, has strengthened the state's ties with the Federal Government by empowering Governor Idris to nominate qualified Kebbi indigenes for federal appointments, thereby reversing a long-standing situation where the state's share of membership on federal boards and commissions was hijacked.

The governor's aide revealed that President Tinubu has been receptive to concerns raised by Governor Idris regarding the removal or denial of deserving Kebbi indigenes from federal positions, demonstrating a willingness to address these grievances.

The cordial relationship between the state and the Federal Government, Sadaukin Zuru noted, has also bolstered efforts to tackle insecurity, with the Federal Government recognising Governor Idris' support for security agencies through logistical and financial assistance in the fight against banditry.

Furthermore, he cited federal agricultural interventions, which have provided additional food and farming support to complement the state government's annual distribution of free farming inputs, highlighting the benefits of the state's affiliation with the APC-led Federal Government.

These gains, he stated, demonstrate that Kebbi State benefits significantly when it stands in solidarity with the APC at the federal level.

Sadaukin Zuru maintained that Governor Idris' support for President Tinubu does not undermine the democratic rights of citizens, emphasizing that every Nigerian retains the freedom to vote according to their personal conviction.

The governor, he said, affirms that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to vote according to their conscience and the track record of their preferred candidate.

As the 2027 general elections approach, Sadaukin Zuru urged APC members and supporters across Kebbi State to mobilise en masse for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election, stressing that the state must maintain its strong relationship with the Federal Government.

Governor Nasir Idris, he added, is calling on all APC members and supporters of progress in Kebbi to work towards securing another electoral victory for President Tinubu, emphasizing that the Federal Government is receptive to the state's needs and that this door must be kept open.
