Kebbi gov names ex-NCoS boss Jega Amirul Hajj

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has appointed former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Alhaji Jafar Jega, as Amirul Hajj for the 2026 pilgrimage.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Tafida, and made available to journalists on Friday.

Jega will head a 19-member government delegation tasked with overseeing and coordinating all Hajj operations for Kebbi State.

According to the statement, the committee is mandated to ensure seamless planning and execution of the pilgrimage, including safeguarding the welfare of pilgrims and liaising with key stakeholders.

“The delegation is to ensure effective coordination of all Hajj-related activities and maintain close liaison with relevant agencies to guarantee the welfare of Kebbi State pilgrims throughout the exercise,” the statement read.

The committee is also expected to ensure compliance with agreements involving the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, and airline operators, while supervising the overall conduct of the exercise and advising government on improvements for future operations.

Members of the delegation include former Deputy Senate Leader, Sen. Bala Ibn Na’Allah; Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia; Abubakar Kana; Babale Yauri;. Garba Bena;. Sulaiman Fana; and Aliyu Muh’d, the Magajin Rafin Gwandu.

Others are Dr Haliru Jikan-Daudu; Zayyanu Rasheed; Halima Bande; Halima Kamba; Mustapha Ka’oje; Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Kabin Jega; Umar Saraki; Kadi Mukhtar; Justice Nuraddeen Muhammad; and Sahabi Gemu, who will serve as secretary.

Governor Idris said the composition of the committee reflects the administration’s commitment to a smooth and well-coordinated Hajj exercise, drawing on experienced officials, religious leaders and key stakeholders across the state.
