Katsina gov unveils car loan scheme for magistrates

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has announced plans to introduce a car loan scheme for magistrates and expand government support for the judiciary to improve justice delivery in the state.

Radda made the announcement on Thursday in Katsina at the launch of the maiden edition of the Hospitality Bar Journal, a publication of the Nigerian Bar Association, Katsina Branch, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Justice.

The governor said the proposed 2027 budget would contain provisions aimed at addressing court congestion, improving the working conditions of judicial officers and strengthening manpower in the judiciary.

He disclosed that the state government had increased the number of judges over the past two years and would consider further appointments in response to the growing workload in the courts.

“We are considering a car loan scheme for our magistrates to give them a dignified life and address their transportation challenges. We will continue to increase their number, improve their welfare and working environment,” Radda said.

The governor also pledged government support for accommodation for judicial officers, as well as sponsorship to enable them to attend international seminars and other professional development programmes.

The governor commended the judiciary for maintaining a cordial relationship with the executive arm of government, saying such collaboration was important for the effective administration of justice.

He also praised the NBA Katsina Branch and the Ministry of Justice for producing the journal, describing it as a platform for legal scholarship, research and professional exchange.

As part of his support for the publication, the governor announced the purchase of 50 copies of the journal for N10m.

Earlier, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Fadila Dikko, said the journal would promote legal research, document jurisprudence and strengthen collaboration between the Bar and the Ministry of Justice.

She commended Radda for his commitment to the justice sector, particularly his efforts to improve the welfare and working conditions of judicial officers and other personnel within the justice system.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the NBA Katsina Branch, Shafiu Umar, said the publication would strengthen legal research and contribute to the development of jurisprudence in the state.
