Kashamu’s son backs Tinubu for second term

A member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ijebu North I State Constituency, Rasheed Kashamu, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the President deserves a second term to consolidate the reforms initiated by his administration.

Kashamu, son of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu and a member of the All Progressives Congress, said in a statement on Sunday that Tinubu assumed office at a difficult period in the country’s history but had demonstrated courage by implementing bold economic reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth.

The lawmaker said that although the reforms came with initial hardships, they were beginning to produce positive results across critical sectors of the economy.

He said, “The journey of rebuilding any nation is never an overnight exercise. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited enormous economic and structural challenges that accumulated over several years, yet he chose the difficult path of reforms rather than the easy path of postponing problems.

“Today, the indicators are gradually showing that those courageous decisions are beginning to produce positive outcomes. What the country requires now is continuity, consistency and sustained leadership to fully harvest the gains of these reforms.”

He commended the administration’s economic policies, including the unification of the foreign exchange market, revenue expansion, fiscal discipline and efforts to attract investment, saying they had strengthened the country’s economic outlook.

He also noted that Nigeria’s reform agenda had attracted positive attention from international financial institutions and global investors, leading to renewed investor confidence and improved macroeconomic stability.

The lawmaker further praised the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure development, citing ongoing projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, as well as investments in rail transportation and inland dry ports.

According to him, the projects will reduce transportation costs, improve trade and unlock economic opportunities across the country.

Kashamu also lauded the administration’s interventions in agriculture, saying government support for mechanisation, dry-season farming, improved seedlings and fertiliser distribution would boost local food production and reduce dependence on imports.

He described food security as one of the key priorities of the Tinubu administration, adding that increased investment in agriculture would generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

On education, the lawmaker described the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as a landmark initiative that had expanded access to tertiary education by providing financial assistance to eligible students.

He added that investments in technical education, digital learning and skills acquisition programmes would prepare Nigerian youths for opportunities in the global economy.

Speaking on youth development, Kashamu said the administration had continued to prioritise entrepreneurship, innovation, vocational training and digital skills development.

He said, “Our youths represent the greatest asset of this nation. President Tinubu understands this reality and continues to create opportunities that empower them through education, entrepreneurship, innovation and access to finance.”

He also commended ongoing reforms in the health sector, including efforts to strengthen primary healthcare, improve access to essential medicines, upgrade medical facilities and expand health insurance coverage.

On security, the lawmaker acknowledged that challenges remained but argued that the Federal Government had intensified efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality through improved intelligence gathering, enhanced collaboration among security agencies and increased investment in military equipment.
