Kano State Governor Submits Nomination Papers to APC

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has taken a significant step towards his re-election bid by submitting his nomination form to the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, as the state gears up for the 2027 governorship election.

According to his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, who made the announcement on his Facebook page on Friday, the governor's submission was made on Thursday, marking a crucial milestone in his campaign.

Yusuf was not alone during the submission, as he was accompanied by a host of dignitaries, including former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Senator Kawu Sumaila, as well as members of the House of Representatives from the state.

In a statement, Dawakin-Tofa revealed that Governor Yusuf briefed journalists at Treasure Suites after submitting his nomination form, describing his decision to run for a second term as a "fresh call to service" and a renewed commitment to the people of Kano State.

During the briefing, Yusuf outlined his plans to expand urban renewal projects across the state, with a focus on road construction, drainage expansion, and market modernisation, indicating that these areas would receive greater attention from his administration.

Rural development, the governor emphasized, would remain a top priority, with investments in feeder roads, water supply, healthcare centres, and schools in rural communities set to continue.

Yusuf also pledged to provide stronger support for agriculture and empowerment programmes for farmers and young people, stressing that job creation and youth development would remain central to his administration's agenda.

He reaffirmed his commitment to improving education and healthcare delivery across Kano State, emphasizing that unity, peace, and inclusive leadership would continue to be the guiding principles of his government.

The governor expressed his intention to work with all stakeholders to move the state forward, while reaffirming his alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to attract more federal projects and opportunities to Kano State.

Yusuf took the opportunity to thank the people of Kano for their continued support and confidence in his leadership, assuring them of his dedication to transparent governance and people-centred development.

It is worth recalling that Yusuf's journey to this point began on January 26, 2026, when he defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the APC, after resigning from the NNPP amid internal party crises.

The move was significant, as it saw a large number of state and federal lawmakers, as well as local government chairmen, follow Yusuf to the APC, and ultimately led to his unanimous endorsement by Kano APC stakeholders as the party's sole candidate.

The stakeholders' endorsement was formalised through the purchase and presentation of expression of interest and nomination forms to Yusuf, solidifying a consensus arrangement that positions him for the party's ticket ahead of the 2027 poll.
