Kano Police Commissioner pledges to stamp out hooliganism and narcotics trade

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has reaffirmed the command’s readiness to partner with the Kano State Multi-Agency Taskforce on Drugs and Illicit Trafficking to tackle thuggery, drug trafficking and related crimes.

The pledge was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, a copy of which was made available to The PUNCH.

According to the statement, the police commissioner gave the assurance when he received the chairman of the task force, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, during a courtesy visit to the command headquarters in Bompai on Wednesday.

“The CP emphasised that tackling drug abuse and illicit trafficking demands a robust multi-agency approach,” the statement said.

Bakori pledged the command’s full support through joint operations, real-time intelligence sharing, technical guidance and the deployment of tactical resources to rid Kano of drug peddlers, traffickers and thugs.

“The command will partner with the task force to rid the state of drug abuse, which has been identified as the major cause of thuggery (Fadan Daba) and fighting among thugs and other miscreants, especially within the state metropolis,” the statement quoted the commissioner as saying.

He urged parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders to support security agencies by providing timely information and backing preventive measures to rid the state of illicit drugs and protect young people.

The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to a drug-free and crime-free society, warning that anyone found dealing in illicit drugs, trafficking or engaging in thuggery would face the full weight of the law.

In his remarks, Rimin-Gado said the visit was to introduce the leadership of the task force, brief the command on its mandate and 2026 operational plan, and seek collaboration to strengthen inter-agency efforts against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Kano State.

He commended the command for its proactive and intelligence-driven approach to crime fighting.

Rimin-Gado also assured that the task force was committed to supporting police operations through advocacy, community engagement, public enlightenment and credible intelligence gathering to dismantle drug networks across the state.
