Kano gov advises 1,500 prospective mass wedding couples on patience, faith

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged 1,500 couples participating in the state’s 2026 mass wedding programme to build their marriages on trust, patience, mutual respect and the fear of Allah.

The governor gave the advice on Thursday during an orientation programme organised by the Kano State Hisbah Board for prospective couples at the Coronation Hall, as part of activities marking the mass wedding.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

Yusuf, represented by the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Aminu Daurawa, described marriage as a sacred institution that requires commitment, compassion and understanding from both partners.

He advised the intending couples to remain faithful, tolerate each other during difficult moments and resolve disagreements through dialogue rather than conflict.

“Every successful marriage is built on the fulfilment of rights and responsibilities by both spouses, because family stability remains a critical pillar for the development of any community,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.

The governor said strong families contribute to peaceful communities, urging the couples to embrace values that promote harmony and stability in their homes.

The orientation featured lectures from Islamic scholars and professionals who addressed issues relating to marriage, family responsibilities and conflict resolution.

Sheikh Ali Aliyu Abubakar spoke on “The Wisdom of Marriage in Islam,” while Professor Ibrahim Mu’azzam Mai Bushira discussed “The Rights and Responsibilities of Spouses in Islam.”

Participants were also educated on the causes of marital disputes and ways to resolve conflicts in line with Islamic principles by Sheikh Muhammad Nur Arzai.

Other speakers, including Barrister Habibu Dan Almajiri, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehi Shehi Mai Hula, Dr. Zahara’u Muhammad Umar and Dr. Khadija Sagir Suleiman, provided guidance on legal, social, religious and health-related aspects of marriage.

As part of the government’s support package, each groom will receive 10 yards of shadda fabric, a cap, a bag of rice and a jerrycan of cooking oil to assist them as they begin married life.

Each bride will receive ₦200,000 for dowry and business support, alongside household items including a bed, mattress, wardrobe, dressing mirror, blankets, bed sheets and a centre rug.

The mass wedding activities will continue until Sunday.

Marriage ceremonies will hold on Friday at the Central Jumu’ah Mosque in Kano metropolis and simultaneously across the headquarters of the state’s 44 local government areas.

The programme will end on Sunday with the distribution of household furniture and other support materials to the newly married couples.
