Kalu calls on Abia to honour the memory of deceased religious leader Uma Ukpai

A call has been made by Orji Uzor Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, for the Abia State Government to take steps to immortalise the late cleric, Uma Ukpai, as his burial is set to take place in Ohafia this week.

Kalu issued a statement on Monday, in which he described the late evangelist as a spiritual leader who made significant contributions to Christianity and national development, with his influence extending far beyond the pulpit.

The senator noted that Ukpai's teachings and humanitarian activities had a profound impact on lives across Nigeria and beyond, and that his legacy should be preserved for future generations.

According to Kalu, the Abia State Government should take concrete steps to immortalise Ukpai, as his life was characterised by service, sacrifice, and commitment to humanity, and his legacy would serve as an inspiration to future generations.

Kalu also urged leaders to emulate the virtues of humility, discipline, and dedication to service that the late preacher embodied, particularly at a time when moral values are being challenged.

The senator extended his condolences to the family, church members, and associates of the deceased, praying for strength as they prepare for his burial, which is scheduled to take place in Ohafia this week.

Uma Ukpai, who passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80, was a prominent pentecostal preacher and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, known for his large-scale crusades and humanitarian outreach.
