Kaduna mob killing: Police arraign 17 more suspects, charge 33 others

The Kaduna State Police Command has arraigned 17 additional suspects in connection with the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of the state.

The latest development comes as the command disclosed that 33 other suspects have also been charged in connection with the incident, while 30 persons earlier arrested have been released after investigations cleared them of any involvement.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, stating that the 17 suspects were arraigned before a competent court on June 25, 2026, following preliminary investigations.

The statement read, “The Command wishes to update the public as follows: on June 25, 2026, seventeen (17) additional suspects were arraigned before a competent court in connection with the incident.

“Following the conclusion of preliminary investigations, thirty-three (33) other suspects have been charged with criminal conspiracy and unlawful assembly.

“Meanwhile, thirty (30) persons previously arrested have been found not to have participated in the crime and have been released unconditionally.”

The command said investigations were still ongoing to identify and apprehend all those involved in the mob action, adding that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted.

The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to securing justice for the victim and maintaining peace across the state.

“The Commissioner of Police reassures the public that the Command remains committed to securing justice for the victim and maintaining peace and order across Kaduna State.

“He urges residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to continue providing the Police with credible information to support the investigation,” Hassan said.

The killing, which occurred in Maraban Jos, had sparked widespread condemnation from security agencies, civil society organisations and community leaders, who described it as a disturbing case of mob justice. Police said investigations remain ongoing.
