Kaduna Air Force Institute confers first-class honours on 305 graduating students

Air Vice Marshal A.K. Ademuwagun, the Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology in Kaduna, has revealed that a total of 3,000 students are set to graduate during the institution's combined convocation ceremonies for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sets, with 305 of them achieving first-class honours.

This achievement underscores the institution's growing reputation as a hub for advanced technological education and a centre of excellence in Nigeria, according to Ademuwagun.

The upcoming convocation activities, scheduled to take place from March 26 to March 28, 2026, will feature a range of events, including induction ceremonies, exhibitions, project commissioning, and a convocation lecture, showcasing the institution's commitment to innovation, research, and practical solutions to national challenges.

A breakdown of the graduating students shows that 513 are from the Aerospace Engineering and Aircraft Engineering Technology programmes, which are critical to the Nigerian Air Force and the aviation industry, highlighting the importance of these disciplines to the nation.

Ademuwagun noted that the Air Force Institute of Technology remains the only tripartite institution in the country, integrating military training with polytechnic and university education, uniquely positioning it to offer a broad range of academic programmes.

Of the 3,000 graduates, 2,112 were trained under programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission, while 729 completed courses regulated by the National Board for Technical Education, and 159 were from the School of Postgraduate Studies, reflecting the institution's broad academic structure.

The institution's emphasis on excellence is evident in the academic performance of its students, with 305 graduating with first-class honours across various disciplines, and 146 students recording distinctions in NBTE programmes.

A further 51 postgraduate students earned distinctions, highlighting the strength of the institute's postgraduate training and research capabilities, and underscoring its commitment to producing highly skilled manpower.

Ademuwagun named Oluwole Winner Oluwatimilehin of Aerospace Engineering, Ahmed Amrah Abdulkadir of Cyber Security, and Babalola-Jacobs David Oluwasegun of Physics as the overall best graduating students, all of whom achieved near-perfect CGPAs of 4.99.

The institution is set to significantly expand its postgraduate programmes, with master's degree offerings increasing from two to 12 in the next academic session, and postgraduate diploma programmes expanding from four to 12, in line with its vision to position itself as a leading centre for advanced technology education and research.

This expansion aligns with the institution's goal of supporting the Nigerian Air Force's operational and strategic needs through a highly skilled workforce, and demonstrates its commitment to producing highly skilled manpower for both military and civilian sectors.

In a move to improve efficiency and transparency, Ademuwagun announced that all graduating students would receive their original certificates immediately after the convocation ceremony, a practice that is rarely observed in many public universities in Nigeria.

As part of the convocation highlights, engineering graduates of AFIT's Class of 2025 were formally inducted by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, marking a critical milestone in their professional development.

Ademuwagun reiterated the institution's commitment to sustained investment in research, innovation, and human capital development, producing highly skilled manpower for both military and civilian sectors, and supporting the Nigerian Air Force's operational and strategic needs.
