JUST IN: Oyo State Takes Delivery of Two Spy Planes

The Oyo State Government has officially received the two highly anticipated security surveillance aircraft, which landed at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday.

These aircraft are slated to provide critical support for aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering, and swift security responses throughout Oyo State and neighboring regions.

A statement released by Dotun Oyelade, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, in the state capital of Ibadan on Tuesday, highlighted the significance of the aircraft's arrival in bolstering the state's security operations.

According to the statement, the arrival of the aircraft represents a significant milestone in the state's endeavors to enhance security through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance, as noted by Governor Seyi Makinde on July 18, 2026, when he confirmed the aircraft's arrival in Nigeria.

Prior to their arrival in Ibadan, the aircraft underwent reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force's hangar in Lagos, following their arrival in the country, as announced by Governor Makinde.

The state government had assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo before the end of July, a commitment that has now been fulfilled with their arrival on Tuesday.

The aircraft are expected to augment the capabilities of security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, in monitoring and responding to criminal activities across the state, as outlined in the statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation.

Commissioner Dotun Oyelade also revealed that Governor Seyi Makinde was present at the airport to receive the two aircraft, marking a significant moment in the state's efforts to enhance security.

The purchase of the two surveillance aircraft was initially announced by the state government on July 8, 2025, as part of a broader strategy to enhance the capacity of security agencies to address emerging security challenges.

The arrival of the aircraft comes after Governor Seyi Makinde announced plans to acquire modern aerial surveillance platforms to support ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity, including kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities, several months ago.
