Jigawa modernises casual income gathering to block financial losses

The Jigawa State Government has introduced a digital platform for collecting revenue, aiming to increase transparency and accountability while reducing revenue losses in the informal sector through automation.

This new system, developed by eTranzact International Plc, was launched on Wednesday in Dutse during a training and stakeholders' engagement program organized in collaboration with the Jigawa Internal Revenue Service, as announced by the company on Saturday.

The platform is designed to replace manual revenue collection methods with electronic payments across various sectors, including livestock and grain markets, as well as haulage operations.

Over 90 revenue collectors, market leaders, and other key stakeholders received training on the platform's operation, according to the company's statement.

Gabriel Essien, Deputy General Manager and Group Head of the Public Sector Division at eTranzact International, stated that the deployment demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting governments with technology that enhances public sector efficiency.

Essien emphasized that the platform's mission is to provide governments with secure digital payment infrastructure, promoting transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency, and that it enables real-time transaction monitoring, eliminates revenue leakages, and provides accurate data for informed decision-making.

The platform integrates various digital payment channels, including mobile wallets and Point-of-Sale terminals, allowing for seamless collections and ensuring that all payments are electronically tracked and remitted directly into government accounts.

Nwabueze Ugwu, Regional Manager for the Northwest at eTranzact International, explained that the platform was developed after consulting with stakeholders to address challenges associated with revenue collection in the informal sector.

Ugwu noted that the solution provides end-to-end automation, enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening accountability, and giving government agencies real-time visibility into revenue collections.

He added that the technology is designed to simplify revenue administration, promoting trust, transparency, and convenience for both government and taxpayers, and that it helps public institutions maximize revenue and improve service delivery by eliminating manual processes.

Dr Nasir Sabo-Idris, Executive Chairman of the Jigawa Internal Revenue Service, stated that the initiative will strengthen revenue administration by improving compliance, reducing leakages, and equipping revenue personnel with modern technology tools.

According to the statement, participants expressed confidence in the platform after a live demonstration showcased its user-friendly interface, seamless transaction process, and real-time reporting capabilities.
