Itauma to make comeback early 2027

Moses Itauma will return early in 2027, his promoter Frank Warren has revealed.

Itauma was ever so close to beginning his seeming path to heavyweight domination.

But he fell at his toughest hurdle, losing in his first bid for a world title against Filip Hrgovic.

The young mercurial British talent was stopped by the Croatian giant after running out of gas by the time the ninth round came around.

He was taken to hospital after being stretched from the ring, but has recovered well.

n

His promoter Frank Warren has suggested next year his comeback trail will begin, but with some new alterations.

“He’s going to fight very early next year, I’ve spoken to him a few times,” he told iFL TV.

“He’s actually back in the gym. I’m going to sit down with the team in the next week.

n

“Now the dust is settled, we can all speak calmly and clearly. He’s very dissapointed.

“He knows what he did wrong. And as I’ve said from the start, there has got to be some serious changes.”

Itauma now faces some difficult answers to try and rebuild after a first defeat in his biggest step-up.

The Chatham southpaw has faced calls to part ways with trainer Ben Davison, who was criticised by many for his role in the defeat.

However, many have suggested Itauma was too inexperienced and needed the rounds before trying to navigate Hrgovic.

Nonetheless it will be back to the drawing board, with fights likely to come at a lower level to build his reputation back up.

talkSPORT Boxing’s Paul Smith believes the 21-year-old is still equipped to dominate the division, but needs to take lessons from his loss.

He explained on talkBOXING: “After watching that fight, I’d put my house on Moses dominating the division and becoming a champion.

n

“But I think he just lacked physical fitness, and needed someone to say to him, ‘slow it down and take some off’.

n

“It just suited Hrgovic perfectly because he was unloading with no regard for what was coming back.
