Irish boxer Lee Reeves is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after suffering a 10th-round knockout defeat to Gary Cully in their vacant BUI Celtic super-lightweight title bout at Dublin’s 3Arena on Saturday night.

The 31-year-old Limerick fighter was stretchered from the ring following the contest and taken to hospital for medical treatment.

As reported by BBC Sport, Queensberry Promotions confirmed on Sunday that Reeves remains in a critical but stable condition.

“We will know more in the coming days, and our thoughts and prayers remain with Lee and his family,” a spokesperson for the promotion said.

Cully, who secured victory with the late stoppage, paid tribute to his opponent after the fight and expressed hope for his recovery.

n“He came in there as a big underdog after fighting relatively at a lower level up until now, but he really showed that he can operate at a higher level. Huge credit to him,” Cully said.

Queensberry promoter Frank Warren also shared a message of support, saying everyone at the promotion was thinking of Reeves and his family while remaining in constant contact with his team.

The bout formed part of the undercard to Pierce O’Leary’s clash with Mark Chamberlain, with Chamberlain claiming a 10th-round knockout victory in the main event.
